Event Details

This documentary film, produced in 1997 by Southern Maine Technical College, chronicles the major societal shift that took place in the United States in the 1940’s as American men headed off to war and women stepped in to fill their shoes. This film is of particular interest to Mainers because of the amazing footage of the New England Shipbuilding Co. formerly located in Portland and the extraordinary scope and volume of shipbuilding that was taking place during that time. Personal interviews in 1997 with the women who worked in the yard during that period shows their spunky can-do attitude and stunning footage make this a must-see local film.
